Think Positive

“Positive people will never let their fears keep them away from reaching their goals and dreams. They always try new things and realize that failures are also important on the road towards success. They realize that there are time for sadness and pain, but they still see lightness and beauty of life.”

This is very true. I have seen it in myself actually whenever I am positive with myself. But to be honest with you, I often am not so positive with myself. It is hard to think on the bright side. It is easier, for me, to think that I will fail. This is partially why I joined Silver Lining 🙂 I thought, if I help other see the bright side of things maybe I will start to see it myself. It has helped 🙂 I am still a work in progress. Like the quote says, even for this adversity, I have to remember to not lose hope! So do you! Life is hard… but in the end it is how you look at it that makes it so. -Pizza

“Success Is Counted Sweetest”

Success is counted sweetest

By those who ne’er succeed.

To comprehend a nectar

Requires sorest need.

Not one of all the purple Host

Who took the Flag today

Can tell the definition

So clear of Victory

As he defeated–dying–

On whose forbidden ear

The distant strains of triumph

Burst agonized and clear

– Emily Dickinson

Description: This poem describes how the one soldier who has been defeated understands success better than the whole army that was victorious.

Only hard work can lead to success

Only hard work can lead to success.

It’s not easy to eat healthy if you’re not too used to it. Everywhere around you, you’ll see unhealthy food that will tempt you, whether in real life or on TV. Seeing others eating unhealthily will make you want to eat that way as well. Everything is a temptation, and it’s so easy to just satisfy your desire, and so difficult to stay away from the food and to stick to healthy food. But if you don’t do this, you won’t reach your goal to become healthier. Granted, the occasional junk food item to reward yourself is acceptable (don’t torture yourself!), but if you give yourself too many rewards, you won’t see any results. Work hard, no matter how hard it is to stay away from unhealthy food, and the reward you get will taste better than any unhealthy food!

Give Encouragement and Hope

Challenge: Give encouragement and hope to someone who may need it. Helping others can sometimes be the best way to help yourself. By spreading joy through your words of encouragement, you get to see a smile appear on a stranger’s face. That smile, will make you hopeful for the same to happen to you!

Work hard to get a good result :)

One of my favorite kpop idols of all time said this quote. And as an accomplished singer and dancer, he definitely has the right to say it. It’s widely known throughout the kpop industry, and to all the fans of kpop, that the path to becoming a singer in the industry isn’t an easy one. However, J-hope’s love and passion for dancing made him resolute and determined to succeed in what he had always dreamed of doing. When listening to him talk about the hardships he went through and how much he misses his parents now that he’s away from them, I feel so sad yet proud. He always mentions how much he loves his fans and that he couldn’t be happier doing what he is doing, and that makes me happy to be his avid fan. I look up to him, and hope that I also have the courage to follow my passions and dreams. I feel proud of how far J-hope has come, and he is just one of many people who work endlessly every single day to achieve good results. So I encourage all of you to not lose hope, and continue following your passions just like J-Hope did. You’ll be surprised how far just a little hope can take you 🙂

Don’t Give Up

Don’t give up- the beginning is always the hardest, so let’s keep on going till the very end.

As a child, I had always had a fascination with the piano. I loved watching and hearing people play beautiful songs, their hands moving quickly over the keys. Soon enough, I developed a longing to learn it myself. But when I actually started taking piano lessons, my dreams were broken into pieces. Learning the piano was much harder than I thought it would be. And it didn’t get any better from there- when I took a long break from classes because of personal issues, it took me a while to get used the piano once I restarted my lessons. I had to skip levels to catch up, and I took a new certification test which required hours of practice learning multiple pieces. I started to get tired of the piano, and I didn’t find much joy in playing it anymore. But my friends told me that learning the piano is naturally hard, and it takes a while to get used to it. So I pushed through, and once I finished learning one of my pieces, I felt so happy. It was such a beautiful, romantic song, and I was ecstatic that I could play it whenever I wanted! I started regaining my love for piano, and I still continue lessons to this day. Although it’s hard, the benefits are huge. So if you’re struggling with something in your life as well, don’t give up right away- you never know how things might turn out!

Happy New Year!

It takes effort to bring about change At the beginning of every year, people always say, “New year, new me,” or “this new year brings about a clean slate,” but in reality, nothing changes. You are still the you that you were in the past, because the coming of a new year cannot erase the past. I always tell myself, “I’ll work harder this year” or “I can handle more and do more this year” or “maybe I can hang out with my friends more and not be as much of an empty sac of loneliness,” but nothing changes, and I find that I’m still the same person that I was the year before. Today, on the first day of 2016, I want to tell you that even though it’s become natural to make New Year’s resolutions and break them not long after making them, you cannot change your life and do something different unless you make an effort to do so and stick to your resolutions. Year after year, I rang in the new year, thinking “this year will be different. This year things will change,” and things never changed because I didn’t do anything about it. A New Year’s resolution is not a wish granted by a genie; it will not come into fruition unless you do something to make it. As I’m saying this, I also want you to know that even the smallest steps can lead you to your goal. As long as you try to make things different this year, things will change. The takeaway message that I want you to hear on the first day of this new year is that if you want to change something about your life, you need to try to make it change.

Happy New Year! Hope you all have a wonderful, fantasic and prosperous year ahead!! Stay Happy! ~Silver Lining

If you don’t take risks…

My teachers have told me many times–and I bet they’ve told you too–take risks, because that’s the only way you’ll succeed. They are right. If you keep doing the same thing for your entire life, nothing will ever change or get better. For the longest time, I was like that. I never did anything new or different. I just did well in school and a few extracurriculars. I did the same thing every day and became numb to the world. I was just going through the motions of everything, and I never really had fun. Even the things that I enjoyed most, such as singing or being with friends weren’t as fun as they used to be, and I had to force myself to pretend that I was having fun, so people wouldn’t worry. I wasn’t depressed or anything; I was just bored with everything in my life. But around spring 2015, I started doing more. I worked harder for what I wanted. I joined temporary bands set up by my guitar teacher and played some gigs. I started recording songs to send out to record companies. I started writing, and considered minoring in music in college. Once I started doing more, I started having more fun. All of the new things that I was doing gave me excitement for my future. I still sometimes slip back into the repetitive boredom, but I now have more to look forward to, and more to work for than just getting into a good college, the same goal as everyone in my school. The new things that I’m doing make me different and give me hope that 30 years later, when I’m looking back at my high school years, I won’t have any regrets. Even if all of the things that I’m planning don’t work out, I took a risk. A risk that makes me different from all of the others around me who just want straight As and perfect SAT scores to get into a good college. The risks you take may not guarantee success, but they give you something to look forward to.

You Are Worthy

I sing, and everyone around me praises my singing, but I’ve always wondered if I’ve ever really deserved that praise. All of the people who praised me were my family and friends, people who were somewhat obligated to praise me. This made me doubt myself a lot in singing. One day, however, I went to a karaoke night that my singing teacher hosted, and performed for other students, who were all complete strangers. When I was performing, I saw a girl in the front row who looked completely blown away by my voice. She had the biggest smile on her face as she mouthed the words. Her face made me feel as if I were a famous singer performing. After everyone had performed, she came up to me and, still with that big grin, told me I was amazing. That one comment completely restored faith in my talent. Before that, I didn’t even know if I was actually good at singing and I wasn’t just being lied to, to spare my feelings. But that instance made me realize that I actually was good at singing, and it motivated me to work harder on my singing and start writing songs as well. I always feel as though I could improve more, but since then, I’ve never once felt that I was bad at singing. Sometimes it takes someone else, even a complete stranger, to tell you, but you cannot simply dismiss yourself as not good without truly knowing. Even if you’re not good at one thing, there will always be something that you’re good at.
