  1. Drink more water! Experts recommend drinking half your weight in ounces of water.
  2. Journal! Think about the highs and lows for each day.
  3. Exercise! Even taking a walk outside will clear your mind and help you feel less stressed.
  4. Cook a meal! Knowing what goes in your food gives you insight on how you’re fueling your body and what it can do for how you feel throughout the day.
  5. Take naps (if necessary)! Getting enough sleep is important for cognitive functioning and happiness.

How to Find Peace in Everyday Life:

  1. Do what makes you happy.
  2. Know that everything will be alright.
  3. Take breaks, rest.
  4. Spend time with friends and family.
  5. Go outside! I find that sitting in front of my computer or using my phone all day really drains me. Nature just has a way of waking us up and freeing us. If you’re feeling stressed, take a step outside and enjoy the trees and plants around you. Feel the breeze in your hair and hear the sounds of nature.
  6. Finish tasks. If procrastination is stressing you, end your torture. Finish whatever you’re pushing off and then be free!

Live life to the fullest everyday, without regrets.

Last summer, I went out of town for a program right when there was a lot of drama in my friend group. Things were really getting heated, and I was so worried that that was all I could think about during the first half of my trip. I didn’t even think about the new people I met at that program, who were really nice and I liked because our experiences were so different that it was interesting. I realized this halfway through my trip, and decided to forget about what was happening at home and to just enjoy my trip and being with these new friends.

Those few days were the highlight of my summer that year, but I realized during those days that I wasn’t a really close member of that friend group because I had been so worried about other things, that I didn’t really hang out with them, so I had only 5 days to become closer with them, and, of course, I ended up being isolated, in a sense, because I didn’t know them as well. I really regretted, and still regret, not focusing on where I was at and who I was with to make memories. It was supposed to be a trip where I could have left my problems behind at home, but instead I took them with me, and it just made a mess for me.

That’s exactly why I feel that we need to live in the moment and constantly make new memories, not just remember old ones. There is something wonderful about every day, and as long as you live in the present, you can find it and remember it. However, if your mind is stuck in the past, you won’t be able to find it.

Show life who’s boss ;)

I’ve been through so many problems in my life, as I’m sure many others have. I’ve suffered through some major depression, anxiety, self-acceptance issues, school stress and friend problems. Overall, life just hasn’t been that great for me in the past few years. However, each day I try to change that. Ever since I started recovering from depression, I told myself that I wouldn’t let it bring me down any more. If my parents or relatives had certain thoughts about my grades or my educational career, I wouldn’t let them make me feel bad. If I was having anxiety or social issues, I would tell myself that I shouldn’t care what others think about me. I would do things my way, and try to feel happy even in the saddest of moments, so it truly shows in the output.  What truly matters is your effort to change your lifestyle, whether it’s personal problems, something negative you want to change about yourself, or social/educational issues. If you put in the effort to live happier and work harder towards a better future, then you can give life a good kick in the butt. Show that you have the power to change your life for the better, and I know you’ll truly be able to make a difference. Be CONFIDENT.
