“If you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t run, then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” — Martin Luther King Jr.

It’s all too easy to give up on something when it gets hard. I’ll even admit to giving up on so many things that I’ve lost count, but every time I give up, I’m filled with regret of how good I could have become. One in particular is Tae Kwon Do, which I did for years, even getting close to getting a black belt. The master even got one for me, with my name on it, and hung it up with other belts that were waiting to be earned. I loved Tae Kwon Do, and I wanted to reach black belt so bad, but I had to stop because I didn’t have time for it anymore, once I got to high school. And just like that, getting a black belt was over. Now that I’ll be leaving for college soon, I know it’s pointless to go back and try to get the belt, so now every time I see someone do martial arts, I think back to that black belt with my name on it, just hanging there, never earned, and I feel guilty for never going back to get it. What I wish I had done is rather than go three times a week, go once a week, and slowly work my way up to black belt. I didn’t have to keep going as often as I did before, as long as I made progress towards getting that black belt. That’s why I’m here to tell you that if you really love doing something or want something, but you don’t know if you can keep doing it, you can slow down, as long as you keep going.

Vanderlei de Lima

In light of the 2016 Rio Olympics, I wanted to share the truly inspiring story of Vanderlei de Lima from Brazil. As some of you may know, during the 2004 Athens Olympics, Vanderlei de Lima was pushed off the race while he was leading in the men’s marathon. Because of this, he lost his stamina and ended up getting third place. Although, he never was sad about it. He showed great sportsmanship and accepted the bronze like it was gold.

Here is a clip that talks more about him: https://www.facebook.com/olympics/videos/10154460504554216/e3bf586c-6d07-477e-95a8-84dfefb1f814.png

He is an example of what you should do when life throws adversity at you. Instead of feeling bad about what could have happened or what didn’t happen… he was happy about what did. By being grateful for what you have and by not letting life’s downs get you down, you will be a happier person 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful Sunday! And keep smiling NO MATTER WHAT!

It’s A Beautiful Day

Sitting under the shade of a tall, wide oak tree, you watch over the entire field. A small bunch of daisies and dandelions pop up from the grass as they scatter over to your bare feet. The warmth of the sun peeks through the holes of the leaves in the tree. It touches your legs, then spreads throughout your body, warming you from the inside. You are reading your favorite book, your eyes lazily dart from page to page, then up to the beauty surrounding you. A small breeze ruffles the ends of your denim shorts and you can hear the leaves rustle above you. You take a deep breath–In. Out.–capturing everything going on. It’s a beautiful day.

How to pursue your passion

  • If you’re new to it and still don’t know a lot about it, it’s better late than never to start learning. If it’s something that you feel you really love and are passionate about, it won’t matter, and everyone has to start sometime.
  • Don’t get too caught up in it and forget about everything else. Even if you’re chasing your passion, you can’t just neglect everything else. Health is very important, considering how stressful it is to pursue a passion, and you can’t forget about friends and family who support you.
  • Patience is key; nothing happens overnight. ‘Nuff said.
  • It’s okay to ask others for help. This type of thing is by no means easy, and there is no shame in asking experienced others who probably struggled and asked for help as well.

Don’t give up. If it’s something you love and are truly passionate about, this will be self-evident.

Summer Memories by Teresa Dearing

Hot pavement burns the feet,

Cool green grass what a treat.

Sand stuck between the toes,

Sun burnt skin on the nose.

Cotton clouds floating by,

Baby blue paints the sky.

Kids running out to play,

School is out, happy day.

Summer smells fill the air,

As we play with out care.

Waiting lines, ice cream stands,

Young and old are the fans.

All nature’s running high,

Summers breeze brush the sky.

Pools and waves cool the skin,

What a day for a friend.

Tired, sleepy children cry,

Once more, they want to try.

Visit family, see friends,

All too soon summer ends.

Soon tired of summer’s heat,

Autumn brings cool relief.

Cool days turn green to gold,

Summer memories~we hold.

The World Is A Masterpiece.

I can see the entire lake, capturing every essence of its beauty. Camping–its provides one with a sense of solitude; a swift, gentle breeze through your hair, birds chirping in the background, the soft waves of the lake patting the your toes as you sit on a boulder on the shore. It is almost as if you lose all sense of time here; without realizing it, it is getting late. As it sets, the sun casts its light–its goodbye for the day. It’s a beautiful sight. Sitting on that rock watching the lake as the sun slowly begins to sink into the night. Deep reds and oranges cover the sky in a swirl of beauty. The wind has stopped blowing and everything is still. The splashes on your toes begin to settle. Even Time has decided to take a break and let Nature do what she does best. The colors of the sky are richer than before. It reflects its beauty onto the lake, urging you to stay.  You’ve reached the climax of the night: birds are singing, the water is dancing, everything is a masterpiece. A smile settles on your face. The world is a masterpiece.

Pink Lemonade by Will Brandt ft. Broadway Puppies

Life’s a soiree

Serving pink lemonade

A cascade of champagne

For you and me

Life’s a bouquet

It’s a dance, a ballet

In the rain

Life is a stay

At the beach, by the bay

Holding tight to a kite

On a clear windy day

Life is a play

And the star on Broadway

Is you

Life is a song, just play along

Life is a show that goes on

So just serve yourself

Pink lemonade today
